Details

Born in São Paulo, SP (1960), where she lives and works, Renata Amaral has a degree in advertising and since 2010, curious and self-taught, she has explored ceramics as an artistic modality. Deepen and enrich your artistic processes on trips, symposiums, workshops and artistic residencies. Remarkable experiences with Doug Casebeer and Peter Beasecker, in Curaumilla, Chile and work with the Japanese master Sensei Kenjiro Ikoma, who mainly influences his firing process and artistic expression within the wabi sabi concept, centered on simplicity, transience and beauty of imperfection .

Renata's artistic research is aimed at exploring and building, based on the potential of materials and processes, such as clay, different firing process, works of art that travel across different territories and dialogue with current concepts. The contemporary look at ceramics allows you to break barriers and explore new artistic research. Their cocoons, flowers immortalized in porcelain and refugees carry, in themselves, the archetype of crossing and transience: from one “place” to another, from one “state” to another. Such works encapsulate, at the same time, fragility and hope for the future. They express the promise of renewal.

My search for expression through clay is an ongoing investigation of its malleability and potential. I explore its roughest texture by mixing stones and sand, as well as liquid porcelain when I seek fluidity and delicacy.

The need to establish human connections is the essence of my work in the search to provoke deep reflections, transcending the material to explore the core of the human experience. This manifests itself both in the sculptural representation of refugees, highlighting their pain and challenges, and in silent protests for the preservation of nature by immortalizing flowers and fruits with liquid porcelain.
