Artist Bio

My name is LaPrea Rich (aka Blaque Swan) and I'm an Abstract Expressionist from the DC metropolitan area. I began painting six years ago and became a professional artist in 2023. I am a member of the Gallery Underground, the Arts Center of Montross, Arlington Artists Alliance, Washington Area Lawyers of the Arts and the Women’s Caucus for the Arts. Since embarking on my professional art career, I've had my artwork published in Arts to Hearts Project: Studio Visit Book Vol. 4 and the online newspaper, ARLnow, became a semi-finalist in the regional Hilton Hotel Abstract competition, featured in two national juried exhibitions, debuted my first Solo Show Exhibition Oh, You Paint: Soul (July 2024), and participated in over 20+ art shows/festivals.

Artist Statement

My specialty consists of creating acrylic abstract paintings using palette knife techniques. My artwork explores the relationship between color, texture, and form. I am inspired by the beauty of the natural world, as well as the emotions and experiences that shape our lives. Ultimately, my goal as an Abstract Expressionist is to create artwork that is both visually stunning and emotionally stimulating. I believe that art has the power to inspire, enrich and transform our lives. I believe that my art has the power to connect us all to something greater than ourselves and I am honored that I am able contribute my gift with humanity.
