Surrealistic DNA in an Abstract Soul

Details

    1. Mikaya Petros was born in Milan, Italy, class of 1964, daughter of the

surrealist painter Petros. She trained in her father's atelier where she made four-

handed photo collages, pictorial and material works. Her encounter in the

1970s with Andy Warhol was incisive. It was in her maternal uncle's

production, post-production and computer graphics house that the artist worked

from a young age creating digital and video contributions. "Painting for me is

like singing in the shower on a sunny day," she says. Through digital

experimentation, her art investigates the Surrealist matrix, giving rise to

conceptual and formal research with a breath that deepens the boundary

between Reality, Time and Symbolism. The subjects of her works, realized

through a digital photographic language, live in a contemporary dreamlike

dimension. In her creative process Virtual Reality and Temporal Spaces are

investigated, decomposed and reassembled in a neo-contemporary vision.

This is the mirror and parallel reflection of a world yet to be deciphered.

Her works have been exhibited at the Expo Fiera in Milan, the Biennale BID in

Trieste 2021, the Michelangelo Expo Prize in Rome, Arte Laguna World at the

Arsenale, the Dante Alighieri Palazzo Borghese Prize in Florence, the Dante

Academy in London 2021, the Enchanted Garden Exhibition in Belgium, the

Luxemburg Prize, the Tower House in the UK, at XI Esposición Internacional

in Valencia in Spain, at 5th Pasa Art Festival in Korea, at Osten Biennale in

Macedonia, at Big Screen Plaza and Found Work of Art in NYC in USA , at

Art Facts and International Painting Biennale in Hamburg 2022. Her works in

the Permanent Collections of Sartori Archive in Mantova, Ca' Pesaro Museum

in Venice, Como Landscape Museum , Cica Museum in Korea, The Art Center

Dover New Hampshire USA, Maritime of Bordeux in France and the

    Statement Mikaya Petros 2023

I like to place oil painting at the center of my work, a familiar aroma since I grew up

among brushes in my father's studio. I draw on the canvas an intermediate space

between the before and after, between the saying and the magical silence with long

oblique lines, a legacy of my passion for photography I like to experiment with a

variety of materials creating what becomes almost an extension of my pictorial

discourse in space. I love polychromy and the unusual use of colored pigments on

medium and large format canvases. I have an abstract dna and the figurative element

tells my contemporaneity. I investigate the virtual world and the life's Enigma. In cold

colors I tell the shadows of my soul and the winds of Mystery. My characters move in

a parallel dimension between mutating forms that narrate the Invisible. I am

fascinated by the digital age and its variations, sometimes I represent the human

cloning of our near future, as in the work entitled Clonable Identity permanently in

the Cà Pesaro Museum in Venice. In warm colours like red and fuchsia, mix alongside

zinc whites and yellows, I describe the palpitations of human beeing.

2025: The exhibition entitled Edges of Infinity brings together a series of 18 large and medium-sized works. It is a tribute to the 3 perfect number as the multiple of the paintings in the exhibition. The central theme is the artistic concept of an imaginary horizon for the Infinite, and it is on this creative line sum of all colors that the intersection of a seemingly infinite series of points that intersect in unexpected chromaticity occurs. Almost on the threshold of this virtual-temporal space the artist depicts himself waiting at the unveiling of the multiverse.

" Her ability to capture the essence of life in the modern world makes her one of the most influential artists of her generation. "Project374 Venice Biennale 2024
