1. How would you describe your art style and what inspired you to become an artist?

My art style is deeply rooted in expressionism. It’s all about channeling emotions, embracing happy accidents, and learning through the process. I’m drawn to the rawness and vulnerability of people, which is why portraiture is at the heart of my work. Art has always been my way of coming back to myself—a safe haven, a source of power, and the way I find meaning in existence. It’s where I feel most alive and connected.

My thought process revolves around color, composition and the process of making the art. Art making for me is dependent upon the immediacy of the moment. Female portraits have been the focus of my artistic practice for several years.

2. Can you tell us about a particular piece of art that holds special meaning for you?

Each piece I create holds a special meaning because it captures a moment in time—a reflection of who I was, what we were experiencing as a family, and what brought me meaning at that point in life. My art is like a visual diary, with every collection representing pivotal moments and emotional milestones. They’re all precious to me, each one telling its own unique story.

3. Can you describe a memorable experience or project that significantly impacted your career?

A pivotal moment in my career was in 2011 when I spent a month participating in another artist’s project in Montreal, followed by two months exploring France and Italy. It was a time of immense growth—embracing independence, freedom, and self-reliance while navigating challenges that stretched me personally and creatively. I was excited yet terrified, but I did it anyway. With a less-than-reliable cell phone, I had to figure out a lot of sticky situations on my own, which taught me how resourceful and strong I truly am. Beyond art, I discovered the magic of travel, the joy of incredible food, and a deep passion for adventure—experiences that continue to inspire my work and life today.

4. What challenges have you faced as an artist, and how did you overcome them?

As an artist, challenges are a constant—they’re part of the human experience. What matters is how we face them, grow from them, and transform into the best versions of ourselves. It’s about stepping out of victimhood and making intentional choices every day that build toward your big picture. I see challenges as lessons, guiding me through the seasons of life and strengthening me along the way. At the heart of it all is creativity—a grounding force that reminds me I’m here for a reason. It’s about recognizing the power in that and choosing to use it to create something meaningful while empowering others to do the same.

My art is like a visual diary, with every collection representing pivotal moments and emotional milestones. They’re all precious to me, each one telling its own unique story.

5. How do you approach collaboration with other artists or creatives?

I approach collaboration with my whole heart because there’s so much power in it. Working together with other creatives is a way to grow, expand, and bring fresh perspectives to your work. I’m always open to new ideas and teaming up—after all, we’re not in this alone, and there’s incredible strength in numbers. Collaborating often leads to finding your fast, fierce friends who inspire and push you to new heights.
