Sarah Gersbach is an artist living in rural Pennsylvania. Her studio is tucked away within seven acres of forest inspiration. She has been making paintings for over twenty years and has her MFA from Moore College of Art and Design, Philadelphia. Sarah's work focuses on her close relationship to the landscapes she explores.
Her love of hiking provides endless inspiration for her work. Some of her favorite places to explore include the Canadian Rockies, Grand Canyon National Park, and the Appalachian Trail.
Sarah's artwork features landscapes and intricate portraits of flora and fauna, brought to life through watercolor on paper and oil on wood panels. Her inspiration comes from her connection with the natural environment, capturing its wonder and beauty in every brushstroke.
My work is a visual account of the forest within the artist. My own internal landscapes manifest into the surrounding flora and fauna. A twisted branch, the bark of a tree, the wing of a moth, all become a metaphor for my relationship with the outside world. As humans, we are eternally embedded within the natural world, just as it lives inside of us. Our connection is inextricable, even as society drifts further and further from our roots in the earth.
My inspiration comes from hiking and spending time in nature with my friends and family. Slow observation and intentional connection with my surroundings informs my work. I am the hiker that stops a thousand times to take pictures.
