After more than 17 years in the fashion industry and the decorative arts market, Boise-based artist, Jodi Miller began to make the ultimate shift to fine arts in 2021. Jodi has become prolific in creating mixed media paintings that invite the viewer into their own journey of being more than what is seen on the surface. Jodi is passionate about conveying inevitable transformation in the symbols, subject matter, and themes of each piece that especially highlight the paradox of finding one’s true identity in the face of uncertainty.
Despite being colorblind from birth, I have learned to use this, not as a limitation, but as one of my creative superpowers—painting in unique color stories that reflect the colors I can see in reality and in my heart. My paintings invite the viewer into their own hero’s journey of being an overcomer—someone pursuing truth and hope in the midst of challenges. My paintings are multi-layered with explorations in intuitive play, mark-making, texture, transparency, pattern, and light. Though each piece appears powerful from a distance, up close the hidden nuances truly convey the story of each piece. I am passionate about conveying inevitable transformation in the symbols, subject matter, and the themes of each piece that especially highlight the paradox of finding one’s true identity in the face of uncertainty—specifically, in the life of individual pursuit, neurodiversity, mental health and spirituality.
