Cvetka Hojnik was born in Murska Sobota, Slovenia. After completing her high school education in Murska Sobota, she graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering at the University of Ljubljana, Department of Textiles, studying Textile and Clothing Design (mentored by Prof. Darko Slavec, Academic Painter, Graphic Specialist). She also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana (Prof. Gorenec, Prof. Vogelnik). With her excellently graded thesis titled "En Soph - Assemblages and Texturing through Fractal Kabbalah," she obtained the title of Master of Fine Arts at the School of Painting and Drawing. Numerous exhibitions and presentations of her works, including solo exhibitions, international juried exhibitions, and group exhibitions held both domestically and internationally, testify to her originality and success as an artist who constantly seeks new ideas and forms of artistic expression. Through her artwork, she narrates the essential polarity of life and, through fundamental awareness, understands the multilayeredness of every being. Contrasts in her works represent complementarities, independent yet interconnected lives that are intended to nourish and inspire one another.
Each of Cvetka Hojnik's works is a material and visual provocation to gain insight into the perfection of the intimate being of every individual, while also highlighting their interconnectedness and inseparability from fellow human beings. She actively collaborates with "eine art galerie in Bad Ems," Germany, and curator Peter Hoffman. In 2013, she had a comprehensive exhibition of her works at the Gallery-Museum in Lendava, Slovenia. On this occasion, her monograph was published, and she received recognition for her cultural achievements at home and abroad. She is a member of the Association of Fine Artists Maribor, the Association of Slovenian Fine Artists Societies, the Austrian Association of Fine Artists, and the Society of International Independent Artists.
She lives and works in Lendava, Slovenia.
Cvetka Hojnik, with a carefully defined plan and a range of colors, creates unique or combinable artistic artifacts. Through the black, red, and white triad, she evokes the symbolic meaning of primordiality and takes us into the transcendental aspect of the cosmic dimension. The key accent is defined by the connection between distinct opposites.
The images do not follow an imaginary mission; they are simply self-sufficient and create pure forms. In them, we do not seek content; the content is pure form, condensed from the fragments of history and intimacy, gradually transforming into symbols. In her works, there is an additional reduction of visual elements, often featuring primal shapes such as circles and squares, which gradually transition into ellipses and rectangles in her newer works. Through her creation, she tells the story of the essential polarity of life and explores the multiplicity of every being through basic awareness. The contrasts in her works are independent yet intertwined lives, enriched with textures of various, often discarded materials, through the exploration of different shades of black. The multiplicity of black is not void of possibilities but a search for new lives, occasionally emphasized with red accents.
In Cvetka Hojnik's works, there is an additional reduction of visual elements and simultaneously a fusion of all previous experiences, leading the artist to the most sophisticated design and technological solutions, reflected in the profound conceptual design and execution
Inspiration
The moon is my muse – especially its secret, shadowed side.
I wander through form and surface, tracing light and darkness in the deep silence of black.
The circle whispers of the feminine, of soft continuities and inner rhythm.
The square answers with the masculine, with structure, order, and grounding.
Together they weave a dialogue – a dance of opposites, of attraction and tension –
as if man and woman had carried their lives beyond the earth,
to dwell upon the moon.
