Women In Arts Magazine Issue 01: Now Open for Submissions

Some beginnings arrive quietly. Others feel like something you have been waiting for without quite knowing what you were waiting for. For Women in Arts Network, this is one of those beginnings.

Over the years, we have watched women artists find one another through our community, share their work, tell their stories, and step into spaces where their practices can be seen and celebrated. Our virtual exhibitions have brought together artists from different countries, generations, backgrounds, and creative practices, and the response has meant more to us than we can easily put into words.

The messages, the submissions, the stories behind the artworks, and the incredible amount of love women artists have continued to bring to these spaces have all led us here. To something physical. Something you can hold in your hands.

Something that can sit on a shelf, travel from one person to another, be opened years from now, and still say: these women were here, and this is what they were making.

We are so excited to introduce Women in Arts Magazine, Issue 01, the very first print magazine from Women in Arts Network. And for its first issue, we are inviting fifty women artists from around the world to become part of this new chapter.

Fifty Women Artists. One First Issue.

The first issue of anything carries a special kind of feeling. It is the beginning of a story that has not yet been written, and we want women artists to be at the very centre of ours.

Women in Arts Magazine Issue 01 will bring together 50 selected women artists through an open call, creating a printed collection of contemporary practices, perspectives, stories, and ways of seeing.

The theme is open. We want to see the work that feels most like you right now. The painting you keep returning to. The photograph that holds a particular memory. The sculpture that took you somewhere unexpected. The body of work that represents where your practice is today.

You can submit up to three artworks, and all visual mediums are welcome. Painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, textile and fibre, photography, digital art, installation, conceptual practice, and more.

Whether you are an emerging artist taking your first steps into the wider art world or an established artist who has been building a practice for years, there is room for you here.

A Magazine Made To Hold Your Work

There is something particularly meaningful about seeing artwork move from a screen into print. An image on your phone can be beautiful. A post can reach thousands of people. A virtual exhibition can connect an artist with someone on the other side of the world.

But a printed publication becomes something else. It becomes an object. For Issue 01, each selected artist will have her work reproduced in print alongside her biography and artist statement. The artworks will be credited with their title, year, medium, and dimensions, giving each artist a thoughtful and lasting record of her participation.

This is not simply about seeing your name in a magazine. It is about becoming part of the very first edition of a publication created to celebrate women artists.

Fifty Artists, Fifty Different Stories

We know that women artists do not fit into one story. Some are working from studios they have built over many years. Others are finding their artistic voice while balancing work, family, education, or completely different lives alongside their practice.

Some make art quietly. Some make it loudly. Some work with paint and canvas, while others build installations, photograph the world around them, work digitally, weave, sculpt, draw, or move between mediums.

That is exactly why the theme of Issue 01 is open. We want the magazine to reflect the variety of women making art today. Your work does not need to fit a particular aesthetic or subject. What matters is that the work feels meaningful to your practice and gives us a glimpse into the way you see and create.

Your Work, In Print And Beyond

Being selected for Issue 01 goes beyond the printed pages. Every selected artist will also receive a place in the Index of Artists, where her name, country, medium, website, and Instagram will be listed so readers can discover more of her work.

Women in Arts Network will also celebrate the selected artists through dedicated promotion across its community. Each artist will receive a social media feature, including a video feature and editorial post on Women in Arts Network’s Instagram, with the artist credited and tagged.

Selected artists will also be featured in the Women in Arts Network newsletter, introducing their work to the network’s email community. We want the magazine to be a doorway, not a destination. A way for someone to discover your work in print and then find their way back to your practice online.

A Publication You Can Carry With You

One of the things we hope Issue 01 can offer artists is a piece of professional history. Every selected artist receives a publication credit in Women in Arts Magazine, Issue 01, which can be included on a CV, website, artist biography, portfolio, or future applications.

It is a small line that can carry a lot of meaning. Because sometimes, as artists, we need tangible reminders of how far we have come. A published artwork. A first feature. A page with your name on it. Something you can point to and say, I was part of this. And because this is Issue 01, you will always be part of the beginning.

And Then, There Is The Award

Every selected artist will also be considered for the Women in Arts Magazine Award. One artist will receive $500 and a four-page spread in the magazine, along with a published interview in the issue.

But we want to make one thing clear: every selected artist receives the same contributor package. The award is an additional opportunity within the issue, not a measure of whose work matters more.

Fifty women will be published. Fifty women will be celebrated. And fifty different artistic voices will become part of the first edition.

Meet The Juror: Charuka Arora

Charuka Arora juror for women in arts magazine

The inaugural issue will be juried by Charuka Arora, Founder of Women In Arts Network and Arts to Hearts Project.

With a long-standing commitment to creating opportunities for artists and building meaningful communities around contemporary art, Charuka has dedicated her work to helping artists share their stories, find new audiences, and feel more connected to the wider art world. Through her work with Women In Arts Network and Arts to Hearts Project, she has created spaces where artists can showcase their practices, connect with fellow creatives, and discover opportunities to take their work further.

Her approach is rooted in a genuine belief in the value of artists’ voices and the importance of making room for different perspectives and creative experiences. We are excited to have her guide the selection for this first issue, bringing her experience and understanding of the art community to a collection that will celebrate 50 women artists from around the world. Together with the artists whose work fills these pages, she will help shape the beginning of something we hope will continue to grow for years to come.

Who Can Apply?

The call is open to women artists aged 18 and above from anywhere in the world. Artists at every stage of their careers are welcome to apply. The theme is open, and all visual mediums are accepted.

You can submit up to three artworks that best represent your current practice. There is no particular style you need to follow and no particular story you need to tell. Just bring us your work. Bring us what you are making, thinking about, exploring, questioning, remembering, or imagining right now.

The Firsts Are Always Special

When we imagined what the first Women in Arts magazine could be, we did not want it to simply be another publication. We wanted it to feel like a gathering. A collection of women who may never meet in the same room, but whose work can sit together on the same pages.

We wanted an artist from one corner of the world to discover another artist from somewhere completely different. We wanted a young artist to see herself represented alongside artists she admires. We wanted the magazine to become something women could keep, share, return to, and feel proud to have been part of.

Most of all, we wanted to create a physical reflection of the community that has already given us so much love online.

Issue 01 is our first step into that world. And we would love for you to be part of it. If you are a woman artist with work you believe in, this could be your invitation to put it forward. Choose the works that feel most like you. Tell us a little about your practice. Let your work take up some space.

Because this is not just the first issue of a magazine. It is the beginning of something we hope will grow alongside the women artists who make this community what it is.

Fifty women artists. One first issue. And a story that is only just beginning. Submit your work by October 31, 2026, and become part of Women in Arts Magazine: Issue 01.
