Multidisciplinary Artist based in Brooklyn
Hannah Witner is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY, whose practice spans an array of media, including oil painting, airbrush painting, drawing, risograph printing, digital art, printmaking, fiber arts, sculpture, DIY, and commercial design. She began her artistic journey as soon as she could hold a pencil while growing up in Charlotte, NC. She earned a BFA from Parsons School for Design in 2018, and has been creating in various studio spaces across Manhattan and Brooklyn since.
Her art has been showcased in a solo exhibition at Solas Studio in early 2023, in solos in Hungary and Portugal as conclusions to residency experiences, and in numerous group shows and showcases around NYC. She's been supported by artist residencies around the world, including in France, Serbia, Portugal, Hungary, Iceland, and the United States.
She works as a designer and art director.
Hannah’s art delves deep into the overlooked minutiae of everyday life, seeking to distort reality and bring attention to the strange and surreal. Her work often features freaks, weirdos, and outlandish creatures, portrayed through goops, globs, and blurred movement, challenging the viewer’s perception. Themes of otherness, love, affection, and biomorphism run through her work, exploring the human mind as a tangled web of memories, fears, desires, and aspirations. She is particularly interested in the blurred lines between the body and the world, using distorted figures to question self-recognition, comparison, and gender dissonance in society.
