How Tatjana Mihailova Merges Art and Science to Create Impactful Art
Tatjana Mihailova is an artist who combines the worlds of art and science, creating works exploring the deep connection between color and human emotion. Tatjana Mihailova’s artwork is deeply rooted in her interest in human nature, color psychology, and art history. The theme “Person and Color” has been a central focus throughout her four academic studies. Tatjana studied architecture in Belarus, earned her BA at the Latvian Art Academy, and then completed an MEd at Daugavpils University in Latvia. Her doctoral research was particularly centered on the “Color Effect on the Dynamics of the Creative Potential of Individuals.”
When painting works inspired by renowned artists like Yayoi Kusama, Henri Matisse, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Rembrandt, and Vincent Van Gogh, she aimed to understand and visualize the personalities, characters, and temperaments behind their works. She explored what influenced their choice of color palette, delving into biographies, color psychology, and well-known color tests. This research then informed her creative process, allowing her to translate this knowledge into her artistic expression.
1. How would you describe your art style, and what inspired you to become an artist?
I combine Art and Science in my pictures. Since childhood, I have wanted to be an Artist. I painted mostly only in Yellow and Orange and immediately hung my paintings on the wall. I was particularly fascinated by the colors of the Sunset. Almost every evening, I ran to see how the colors changed as the sun went to sleep.

4. What challenges have you faced as an artist, and how did you overcome them?
Like most Artists of all times and countries, I have faced the same problems—it‘s a lot of work and costs that never pay off. I have taught and continue to do so now.
When I painted pictures about Artist’s as Yajoi Kusama, Henri Matisse, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh and etc., I wanted to understand and visualize it, what kind of personality, what kind of character and temperament is behind the paintings and what determines the choices of artists‘ color palette.

5. How do you approach collaboration with other artists or creatives?
As an Artist, now I‘m a loner.
6. What has been the most rewarding aspect of your art journey?
My four studies and creative work are with Daugavpils University students. Later, the organization of my private MalakademieM7.
