Polina was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and immigrated to the U.S. at a very young age. After living in many places around the country and obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Community and Environmental Planning from the University of New Hampshire, Polina moved to the Sierra Nevada Foothills of California in 2022, which is where she resides today. Art has always been a part of Polina’s life, both as a hobby and professionally, and has become her greatest joy.
My interest in art began as a way to create magic and beauty in my life, especially as a tool for processing, growing, and inspiring hope during hardships. I am particularly interested in understanding the human experience through stories and lore. This interest combined with my spiritual connection to the natural landscape are the foundation of my art practice in both portraits and landscapes.
Primarily, my work is influenced by reflections on my experiences and the stories of others, as well as my experimentation with a variety of mediums, like watercolor, pen and graphite. I am often inspired by the beauty of my chosen subject and the emotional and spiritual transformations people go through in life, in particular while persevering.
My creative process involves capturing faces realistically and finding ways to tell a story with surreal elements, creative composition, and a variety of mediums. In my landscapes, I often experiment with bright colors and impressionist details based on my connection to the land while working plein air. My work aims to inspire a spiritual connection with oneself and the natural world. Looking forward, I am eager to expand my fantastical expression through mixed-media while highlighting meaningful themes, such as the complexity of character and connections to nature.
I draw inspiration from the human experience, natural beauty, and folklore. The central themes of my portrait artworks include personal transformation and the complexity of character. With my landscapes I inspire a spiritual connection to the landscape.
