Meet Jacqueline, a passionate artist whose vibrant and bold paintings are inspired by wildlife, nature, and her life experiences. In this interview, she talks about her creative journey—from her childhood surrounded by art to finding her unique style that mixes precise geometric shapes with striking, unconventional colors. Jacqueline shares the story behind her deeply personal Cavaleiro collection, the unforgettable moments that shaped her career, and how she’s overcome challenges.
Jacqueline’s creative journey is shaped by her love of travel, history, and art. Born in Quebec and raised in Ontario, she spent summers exploring Europe and later studied and worked in England, immersing herself in new landscapes and histories. She then moved to Toronto to study History, though her passion for the arts soon drew her back. She shifted focus to Museum and Art Gallery Management and Curation while also experimenting with graphic design, digital illustration, and painting—discovering an artistic expression that would become her true calling. Now based in Jasper, Alberta, Jacqueline’s work is deeply influenced by the stunning wildlife and landscapes of the Rocky Mountains. Her vibrant paintings explore color and form, where structure meets the energy of nature.
With bold, dynamic palettes and subtle color blending, her pieces invite the viewer to experience the natural world’s beauty unconventionally. Jacqueline’s style has evolved through influences like puzzles, stained glass, mosaics, mandalas, and textile patterns, resulting in rhythmic and geometric compositions. Her work transcends traditional representation, aiming to capture the spirit and movement of the wildlife she portrays. Each piece is a unique fusion of graphic precision and fluid expression, where color and pattern work together to evoke the energy and personality of the animals she depicts.
My art blends representational and abstract elements with a strong focus on wildlife. I create vibrant acrylic paintings that combine realism—especially in the eyes of the animals—with fragmented, geometric shapes throughout their bodies. My work is shaped by my love for puzzles, mandalas, stained glass, and textiles, blending structure and precision with bold color exploration. I enjoy pushing boundaries with unconventional palettes that feel otherworldly. I began experimenting with digital art in university, discovering a passion for outlining animals and filling them with vivid, expressive colors. The contrast between precise shapes and dynamic hues allows me to represent animals freshly—both grounded and fantastical. This fusion of structure and creativity remains a driving force in my work, continually inspiring my exploration of form, color, and emotional depth.
The most rewarding part of this journey is living authentically, expressing myself freely, and finding joy and fulfillment in every piece I create.

It would have to be my *Cavaleiro* collection, featuring only horses; it holds deep personal meaning for me as a tribute to my late grandfather, Aureo Mar Cavaleiro. Cavaleiro, meaning “horseman,” made horses a natural fit as the series’ subjects and are known to represent power, elegance, and majesty. Done in my signature style; the use of precise geometric, fragmented forms and bold, vibrant, unconventional colors – each piece honors my grandfather’s legacy, capturing both his love for precision as an architect and his creative spirit. The *Cavaleiro* collection became a powerful way to process loss and honor his influence, creating a meaningful connection between my art and our shared memories.
One of the most memorable moments in my career occurred early in the pandemic when the art gallery I worked at had just reopened. I was invited to paint live in the gallery to attract visitors during slower days. While excited, I didn’t think it would lead to anything beyond that day. I chose to paint a rooster, a subject I had grown up seeing my grandmother paint repeatedly. While painting, a man entered the gallery and, in a playful moment, jokingly dared me to let him add something to the canvas. I agreed, and he said a small spot of green was on the bird, asking later to see the piece when completed. To my surprise, he offered to buy it! That moment marked my official introduction to the world of professional art; it was a validating experience that showed me how quickly my art could connect with people and be something more.
The most rewarding part of my art journey has been discovering how fulfilling it is to live in alignment with my creative passions. As a naturally creative person, self-expression has always been central to my identity. When I worked in a different field, painting was my escape—an outlet to recharge and reconnect with myself. It made me feel free and grounded, even during the busiest times. Transitioning to a full-time art career, I realized it wasn’t just about doing what I loved but building a life reflecting my values. Maintaining a work-life balance has been key, as I could never commit to a career I wasn’t fully passionate about. The most rewarding part of this journey is living authentically, expressing myself freely, and finding joy and fulfillment in every piece I create.
This fusion of structure and creativity remains a driving force in my work, continually inspiring my exploration of form, color, and emotional depth.

I advise aspiring artists to embrace their unique journey and trust in their process. Everyone’s path is different, so give yourself the freedom to explore without comparing your progress to others. Art is deeply personal; experimenting with styles, techniques, and mediums will help you find your true voice. Avoid succumbing to social media pressure or external expectations.
It’s easy to get caught up in trends or think you must create what’s popular to gain attention or sales, but creating for yourself first is crucial. Stay true to your vision; if your work is authentic, it will naturally resonate with the right audience. While embracing feedback and constructive criticism is important, stay grounded in your mission and trust your instincts. Most importantly, enjoy the journey! Art is about the process, growth, and joy. If you love what you do, it won’t feel like work.
