We were designed by The Creator to create, so go out and be creative!
I’m an Ohio native with a degree in Graphic Design from The Modern College of Design (formerly The School of Advertising Art). I currently work from my home studio in Indiana, where I live with my husband and two dogs. I also have 4 amazing adult children, 2 awesome adult step-children, and 2 beautiful grandbabies! My love for art began at age 8, when I saw a sign in a mall gallery offering art lessons. I begged my parents to sign me up, and thanks to their support, I’ve been creating ever since. Although my father passed when I was 25, I keep his memory alive by signing all of my work under the name Alana Dale—a variation of his name, Alan Dale. Outside of the art world, I am known as Kathryn Hunsche. It makes me smile to know that my dad would be proud of the art I am making at this time in my life. My mom tells me all the time that she is proud of me and knows he would be.
I draw deep inspiration from time spent in God’s creation—being outdoors renews me and fuels my creativity. I truly believe that God is the Master Artist and He created each of us to be creators as well. The work I do is only by His hand in my life. The trials and triumphs of everyday life, along with my faith, give me all I need in the way of artistic inspiration. My hope is that my love for God and His creation can be seen in my work and will inspire others to use their gifts as well.
I work in acrylics, oils, watercolors, and pastels, though lately I’ve been focusing on acrylic and oil painting. While I’m a Buckeye through and through, I have to admit—I love visiting “The State That Shall Not Be Named” and often draw inspiration from its stunning landscapes.
My work ranges from representational to abstract, and I enjoy creating from both observation and imagination. In my abstract pieces, I use leftover paints from previous works to avoid waste—each painting becomes part of the next. These abstracts usually begin with a specific emotion I’m feeling at the time. By the time the piece is finished, it either transforms that emotion entirely or deepens it in unexpected ways.
I believe artists should always be learning, growing, and exploring new styles. Right now, I’m drawn to bold colors and rich textures—but that could change, and that’s part of the beauty of creative freedom. I feel truly blessed that God has given me the gift of creativity, and my hope is that my work brings joy, meaning, and encouragement to others.
I’ve been fortunate to have my work featured in several artist groups on Fine Art America, where my pieces are also available for purchase. More recently, I was honored to have one of my landscape paintings selected for Arts to Hearts Project’s curated book, “101 Artworks – Landscape Edition.” Even better—it’s a collection that features all female artists!
I began my career in graphic design, working in the field until I had children. After that, I became a stay-at-home mom and worked part-time as a paralegal. Even during that busy season of life, I never stopped creating—whether it was painting set pieces for my kids’ musicals, designing websites for friends, or making flyers for a law firm, creativity was always part of my life.
Today, I work part-time for a nonprofit that provides free legal assistance to underprivileged individuals. And whenever I can, I paint in my cozy loft studio—generously set up by my amazing husband. We travel to Michigan often, and one day, he’ll build me a studio there too (he promised!). I can’t wait to see where God takes me creatively next—there’s so much I still want to bring to life through art.
