You Are Art

Details

Christina Cowan is a full time artist in Connecticut as well as a licensed social worker. She grew up surrounded by art, as both her mom and aunt are artists and have shared an art studio together. She started out her young twenties with a career in social work and painting on the side, but has found over the past few years that being an artist is her true passion and focus in life, leading to her starting her own art business. She is currently a student with the Milan Art Institute in their Mastery Program where her art has grown immensely and she has truly found her voice and unique artistic style. She notably has been accepted into multiple juried art shows, has had a solo art show and exhibit in the Clinton Art Gallery where she has now become a member, and has been accepted into four art books and one magazine with a virtual art exhibit.

I feel as though I was born to make art, look at art, be art. My artistic voice focuses on empowerment, especially in women - using colors that bring me happiness and embrace my femininity. My artistic process is as follows: sketching, collaging to create textures and incorporate quotes, spray paint & loose mark making with paint markers, transparent oil washes and glazes, opaque oil painting, and finalizing with cold wax mixed with oil paint. I have found that through this process and focus of subject matter and use of color, my love for art has grown and my love for myself and my feminine side has grown.

I am drawn to the beauty and strength in women. I gravitate towards painting women in passionate, romantic, and dreamy poses with bright colors to convey their strength and happiness. I have been on a floral and bumble bee kick at the moment for accessory subject matter. This combines the themes of blooming and how important bumble bees and women are in leadership and life. My art continuously conveys themes of empowerment, refusing to let yourself be small and quiet, blooming of self-love, as well as finding true love in healthy relationships. These themes and subjects directly relate to my journey as a young woman who has finally understood her worth and voice. This has led to true self-love and down the right path to healthy and genuine connections with the other women in my life and my partner.
