I am Harajuku Pearl, born and bred in Singapore, and I am currently living as a nomadic contemporary artist between Asia and Europe.
After spending thirty (30) years in the interior design industry as a workplace consultant, 2024 marks my transition year as I fully embrace my passion for art. I create the Big Hair Gurls, inspired by watercolours and gouache, celebrating our big ideas and embracing our inner feminity.
My creative process begins with a deep exploration of my surroundings, drawing inspiration from the beauty of everyday life and the rich narratives woven into culture. Each piece is approached with curiosity, allowing my brush to dance across the canvas and capture fleeing moments and emotions. Collaboration with fellow artisans further enriches my vision, fostering innovation and depth.

Let’s dive into this journey together, Dahling. Remember those art classes back in Kindergarten where we created pretty bookmark patterns with paint by folding the paper? That playful exploration sparked my journey into colour and creativity! I wanted to fill my sketchbook, which is precisely what I did! When I opened it, I was delighted to see the mishmash of symmetrical colours - pure joy on the page! n that moment of inspiration, I envisioned a gurl with a super gigantic hairdo. Her hair was destined to tell a story all its own! And so begins the story of “The Big Hair Gurls.” Each character's creation embodies courage and dreams, showcasing the beauty of their unique journeys. WHY THE BIG HAIRDO? Hair isn’t just hair; it reflects strength and identity. These gurls wear their big hair like a crown, showcasing their BIG dreams, their BIG ideas and journeys. “The Big Hair Gurls” represent the magical souls among us. Each one carries a unique story, ready to inspire others. Are you ready to embrace your inner “big hair gurl,” Dahling?
