Details

Lisa Faulkenberry is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans expressive equine, landscapes, surreal abstraction, and symbolic storytelling. Deeply inspired by nature, her paintings reflect both the tangible beauty of rural life and the more mysterious, internal terrain of memory, emotion, and perception.

Originally from New York, Lisa grew up immersed in the quiet rhythms of East Coast countryside living, where she developed a deep appreciation for animals and the natural world. For the past 37 years, she has made her home in Bakersfield, California. There, she and her husband have spent two decades living on a small horse ranch in the foothills—surrounded by beckoning mountains and breathtaking skies—which continues to inspire much of her work.

Well known for her equine and Western art, Lisa captures the energy and emotional connection of horses, cattle, cowgirls, and ranch life with reverence and vitality. Her current series, Women With Horses, honors the powerful, intuitive bond between women and horses—rooted in strength, trust, and shared spirit.

In contrast, her more abstract and surreal works explore inner landscapes, recurring symbols like moons, water, and portals, and the sacred space between the seen and unseen. These paintings often serve as meditative visual diaries—guided by intuition, texture, and emotional resonance.

Working in acrylic, oil, and mixed media, Lisa allows spontaneity and layered mark-making to guide her process. Whether painting a soulful horse or a celestial dreamscape, her work invites viewers into a space of connection, contemplation, and wonder.

“There’s a quiet magic in the in-between—between seen and unseen, reality and dream. That’s where I like to paint.” —Lisa Faulkenberry
