Kathleen Warren grew up in a small town in the southern United States where stories permeated everyday life, and narrative became a foundation for her artistic expression. After decades behind a camera and a degree in photography, she began to combine her photographs with encaustic wax and to add layers and textures with this living medium of beeswax and resin. Kathleen’s blend of photograph and encaustic wax, with its tension between “photograph” and “not photograph,” has enabled her to explore her ideas with more depth and richness. She usually works in series to more fully explore the themes of her work, themes that echo story and fluidity. Kathleen’s lifelong love for dressage, ballet on horseback, led her to appreciate human dance—the gesture, movement, passion. In her work, she challenges herself to distill the graceful motions and the fleeting moments into an unspoken narrative. Kathleen shows her work in galleries and juried shows, where she has won numerous awards, and her work has been published regionally and internationally. She is a juried member of the Florida Artist Group and a Signature member of the National Association of Women Artists, where she volunteers her time to further women in the arts.
