Realism Art by Ethiopian Artist
Realism Art by Ethiopian Artist
I am a self-taught Ethiopian artist working primarily in graphite and coloured pencil, creating detailed portraits that explore identity, emotion, and human presence. My practice is driven by a strong sense of responsibility to highlight the richness, dignity, and beauty of Ethiopian and African culture—stories that have often been overlooked or misrepresented. Through my work, I aim to present these subjects with care, respect, and precision, allowing them to exist fully and confidently within contemporary visual spaces.
Ever since I was a child, art has been the doorway to my imagination. Drawing offered me a form of escapism—a quiet space where nothing existed but myself, a sheet of paper, and a pencil. What began as childhood fascination has grown into a lifelong calling, one that continues to deepen as I learn, observe, and understand the power and beauty of visual storytelling.
While my work is rooted in my cultural background, its intention is expansive. I want viewers from all walks of life to recognize themselves within the expressions, gestures, and emotions I depict. Detail plays a critical role in this process; it is how I draw people in, hold their attention, and create moments of quiet connection.
Ultimately, my goal is to create work that inspires fascination, reflection, and empathy—images that celebrate culture while reminding us of our shared humanity.
