Independent Fashion Artist

Details

I am Gabbie Smith, the person behind Foxxie — a fiber-based artist and maker working at the intersection of fashion, craft, and sculptural design.

Through crochet, I construct highly detailed garments and objects that challenge conventional perceptions of textile work. Each piece is developed through an intuitive and experimental process, where form emerges directly from the interaction between material, structure, and time.

Rather than following traditional design methods, I work through freehand construction, allowing garments to evolve organically as they are made. This approach results in pieces that exist between clothing and sculpture, defined by layered textures, irregular forms, and a strong sense of atmosphere.

My work is characterized by organic structures inspired by nature, combined with darker, cinematic undertones. Through this contrast, I build a visual language where softness and tension coexist.

Within my broader practice, Foxxie represents the maker, the origin of the work and the hand behind each piece, forming the foundation from which new identities and directions continue to emerge.

Rooted at the intersection of craft, fashion, and sculptural form, my work uses fiber as a medium for experimentation and storytelling.

Working primarily through crochet, I create garments and objects that challenge traditional perceptions of what textile work can be. Each piece grows from an intuitive, freehand process, form emerging organically through my interaction with material, tension, and structure, rather than from a predetermined pattern or sketch.

My pieces are wearable sculptures. Shaped by texture, atmosphere, and the push and pull of the making process, they exist beyond the boundaries of clothing. Drawing inspiration from organic forms found in nature and darker cinematic influences, I've built a visual language where softness and distortion coexist, where something familiar becomes something stranger.

Within my practice, the identity of Foxxie represents the maker, the origin of the work, the hand behind every stitch. From this foundation, the project continues to grow, expanding beyond its material roots into a broader conceptual space.

Foxxie's work is shaped by the tension between the natural and the unsettling. Organic structures found in nature, growth patterns, irregular textures, and unpredictable forms, meet darker visual references drawn from cinema and atmospheric storytelling, creating a space where the two worlds quietly collide.

At the heart of the practice is a fascination with contrast: the softness of fiber set against distorted, otherworldly forms. This push and pull informs both the structure and the aesthetic of each piece, resulting in garments that feel familiar yet strange, rooted in the natural world, but pulled toward something darker.

Rather than working from fixed concepts, the process often begins with a feeling or an atmosphere. The material takes the lead, and the work finds its direction from there.
