Where the strange, the beautiful, and the fragile interwine.

Details

Born in Paris in 1987, Marion Pons is a French visual artist. She is trained in creative direction and communication and has been practicing photography and drawing since her teens. Her photographic journey began when she was around 20, with portraiture, concert photography, and reportage. It was fueled by three series produced during her studies in graphic design : Après quoi tu cours ? (What are you running after?), Dos à dos (Back to back), Deux genres ? Dé-genres ! (Two genders? De-genders!).
In 2017, she exhibited Un Autre Jour Viendra (Another Day Will Come) at the Échomusée gallery (Paris), a work combining portraits and stories of Palestinians living in the West Bank.

After several years working in cultural communication, she returned fully to her artistic practice in 2024, driven by the ambition to develop an approach as an author-photographer, visual artist and pursuing a more personal visual language. In 2025, she took part in several group exhibitions including Finding Light Within the Dark (Too Tired Project, US), was nominated for the One Shot Award (BBA Prizes) and presented at the BBA Gallery (Berlin), then introduced her first painting from the ongoing series Monstresses at Galerie Openbach (Vincennes). In November, she was selected for the Women Artist Award 2025 by the Arts to Hearts Project.

As a visual artist, I like to say that my work exists in a liminal, twilight space. Through photography, drawing, painting, and writing, I explore themes of mental health, memory, and our relationship with the body, seeking to give form to what remains invisible or unspeakable, unspoken.
Influenced by different worlds, including cinema—particularly the aesthetics of horror—and folklore, I draw on references and atmospheres from these sources. I am particularly interested in the ambiguous space where the bizarre, beauty, and fragility coexist.

My recent projects—the photographic series Un Monstre sans corps (A Monster Without a Body), which addresses the subject of depression, the series of paintings Monstresses (Monsters), and Ce qui reste d'elle (What Remains of Her), a fictional novel inspired by the life of my great-grandmother, who died in Oran—weave together an intimate and engaged universe, where art becomes a space for exploration and resilience.

I explore themes of mental health, memory — personal and collective — and our relationship with the body, through a feminist lens.
I am influenced by many things, including the emotions and commitments of everyday life, but also the atmosphere of a song, the cinematography of a film or the magic of folklore.
