Namira is a self-taught abstract artist based in Dubai who creates joyful, flower-inspired art full of colour and feeling. In this interview, she opens up about her journey—how she followed her love for painting, built her own art business, and found inspiration in nature, her daughter, and beautiful colour palettes.
She shares what led her to become an artist, how she turns an idea into a finished piece, and why certain paintings hold deep meaning for her. Through her words, we learn how art can be healing, how colour can lift our spirits, and how staying true to your passion can lead to something really special.
Namira Basit is a contemporary abstract artist based in Dubai, U.A.E., whose work primarily focuses on colour perceptions. Flowers serve as the underlying theme in all of her pieces. She combines traditional painting techniques with contemporary abstract concepts, creating a distinctive visual language that appeals not only to art lovers but also to nature enthusiasts. Namira’s studio mission is centred around spreading joy by boosting serotonin levels through her artwork, with the ultimate goal of sharing happiness with others.
In a nutshell, Namira is entirely self-taught in all the mediums she works with. Over many years of practice, she has honed her craft, continuously evolving and finding her true artistic voice. While pursuing a college education in Business, she obtained a BBA and later a Master’s degree in Marketing. Namira’s intention was to become a self-sustained artist who could market herself and her work effectively. This led her to begin making art sales online in 2019.
Her artistic vision revolves around colour, drawing inspiration from the unparalleled beauty of flowers. After the birth of her daughter, Lily, who is now four years old, Namira says that her daughter serves as a daily reminder of her love for flowers. As an artist, colour expression plays a pivotal role in her work, and Namira is passionate about capturing the essence of flowers through carefully crafted colour palettes. She also incorporates Chronology, the study of colour psychology, into her artwork, striving to create harmonious colour combinations that represent joy and remind viewers of the beauty found in nature.
I’m a full-time visual artist with a deep love for nature and colour psychology, which I love to incorporate into my work. With a Master’s in Digital Marketing and an extensive graphic design background, I created my art as a brand and ran it like a small business with a creative edge!
Colour is my love language, and when I see a good palette, it almost immediately gets my mind working towards ideas of how to bring them into a composition.

Since a very young age, I have been colouring and painting, and my father encouraged me to explore my creativity greatly as I was growing up. Combined with my love for flowers and nature, it all came together and became my inspiration and my dream to one day become a full-time artist.
I always start every new piece with a colour palette – the palette always sparks my creativity once I’ve put an amazing one together. The rest all works out based on the colors, and I begin to visualize the theme, then I find my references, and start creating! I hate to delay my painting process once the idea has struck me, so unlike a lot of artists out there who hesitate to start out on a new canvas, I am ready to jump right in when I have the visualized idea in my mind’s eye!
I follow a lot of floral-inspired pages on Instagram, and I have entire Pinterest boards (yes, boards. Multiple.) with heaps and heaps of floral references of all kinds. I have a passion for photography as well, so I also take a lot of my own photographs, which leads me towards many of my abstract pieces. I also frequently love going through trending colour palettes on Pinterest, and that usually comes with a lot of inspiration for me, too. Colour is my love language, and when I see a sound palette, it almost immediately gets my mind working towards ideas of how to bring them into a composition.
I want my art to boost serotonin levels and bring joy to others, spreading that happiness just like flowers in full bloom.

It’s a piece I titled “Be The Love You Never Received”, which is very close to my heart, as I quite literally poured my soul into it. This one is very special to me because of what it represents. I know it just looks like a canvas covered in flowers – but what brings the meaning through is the colour palette and how I was feeling at the time of working on this painting. The title came to me in an instant once it was complete. The painting is a visual manifestation of healing, self-love, and transformation. The artwork carries a quiet intensity, a reminder that love is not only something we seek but something we can cultivate within ourselves. Symbolizing the journey from longing to self-fulfilment, this painting is an invitation to embrace your own self and to radiate that love into the world.
Namira’s story reminds us that art doesn’t have to come from formal training to be powerful—it just has to come from the heart. Her passion for colour, love for flowers, and deep belief in joy as a form of healing shine through every brushstroke. Whether you’re an aspiring artist or someone looking to reconnect with creativity, her journey is a beautiful example of following your intuition, embracing emotion, and creating from a place of love and authenticity.
