Painting the unseen threads between animals, memory, and the human spirit
My work explores the unseen emotional and spiritual connections that exist between humans and animals. I paint animals not simply as subjects, but as presences that reflect loyalty, truth, trust, memory, and quiet recognition back to us.
Working primarily in oil, I use layered light, atmosphere, and symbolic imagery to create paintings that feel both intimate and timeless. Much of my work centres around the idea of unseen golden threads forming between people and the animals they encounter throughout life. These threads became the foundation of my ongoing body of work, God’s Rope, which represents connection, guidance, and the relationships that quietly shape us.
Animals have always been central to my life, especially horses, dogs, cats, and foxes, and my paintings are deeply influenced by real experiences of companionship, rescue, trust, and observation. Rather than focusing on spectacle, I am interested in stillness, emotional truth, and the moments that often go unnoticed but stay with us forever.
Through my work, I hope viewers recognise something familiar within themselves: the understanding that our connection with animals is not separate from our humanity, but part of it.
My work is inspired by the quiet emotional and spiritual connection that exists between humans and animals. Much of my painting explores the idea that animals are not separate from us, but mirrors that reflect truth, loyalty, trust, vulnerability, and presence back to us.
A recurring theme throughout my work is the idea of unseen threads forming between people and the animals they encounter throughout life. These threads symbolise recognition, guidance, companionship, healing, and the moments that leave a lasting imprint on us. This became the foundation of my ongoing body of work, God’s Rope.
I am particularly inspired by horses, dogs, cats, birds, and foxes because of the symbolic and emotional presence they carry. My inspiration comes largely from lived experience, observation, rescue work, memory, and the silent understanding that can exist between humans and animals without words.
Through oil painting, layered light, and atmosphere, I aim to create work that feels timeless, contemplative, and emotionally familiar. I want the viewer to feel recognition rather than explanation, as though the painting is reflecting something they already understand deep within themselves.
